Let’s show off a whole range of exciting additions coming to NovelAI today!
First and foremost, we are going to introduce our newest feature, Lorebook Generation!
You can now generate Lorebook entries right within the Lorebook!

Swiftly toggle the Lorebook Generation by selecting the Generation option inside the Lorebook on the right side above the inserted text box:
Simply click “Generate” to toggle the feature and enter a short phrase, keyword, or name and let the AI do the rest!

The AI will generate up to 80 Tokens for Opus tier subscriptions at a time and 60 Tokens for all lower tiers for each generation.
You can also continue to generate more text by hitting the generation button again or retry the AI’s output completely with the retry button.
Add Context:
It’s possible to add additional context to the generator. It will already look for any Lorebook entry keys in the input text, but you can also toggle Memory, Author’s Note, or add additional Lorebook keys without having them in the input.
Note: The Lore Generator doesn’t follow the normal rules for context building. For example, Cascading Activation, Force Activation, and Key-Relative Insertion will have no effect.
Generation History:
You can even see a convenient list of all your previous generations of your latest session under the Generation History menu. Here you can find the previous 50 outputs. These are cleared on each page refresh, though! Clicking any one of the previous generations lets you directly restore them!
Generation Types:
Aside from the “General” option, you can also pick another generation type for the text you will write, including specific options such as Person, Place, Thing, Faction, Concept, and History through the dropdown menu.
Let’s take a quick look at each type of generation option,
General: This type has a little bit of everything, making it somewhat unfocused but able to pull from a wider variety of information.
Person: Let the AI generate people, whether human, alien, or some other life form.
Place: Hamlets, futuristic cities, far-off planets, and other such places are the domain of this type.

Thing: Generate material things like a cursed weapon, deadly disease, or fantastical creatures.
Faction: Noble Houses, Druidic Orders, and Corporations would all fall under this type, factions.

Concept: As the name suggests, concepts are pretty vague. It works best for immaterial things like laws, spells, or technologies.
History: Generate descriptions of prior events such as notable political events, natural disasters, important festivals, or any other historical occurrences in your stories.
Huge thanks to our community members Pause, Cass, lion, and OccultSage for their contributions to the Lorebook Generation feature.

The Unofficial Novel AI Knowledge Base is available to provide extra details and explanations to many things related to NovelAI.
Additionally, you now have the option to highlight activated Lorebook entries in your story. This new optional setting is possible thanks to the new editor changes we’re pushing with this update.
This setting is disabled by default and needs to be enabled manually in your Customisation Settings! Keep in mind that stories with very large Lorebook collections might have their performance impacted by this.
When enabled, active keys for Lorebook entries will be bolded in the editor. Double-clicking one of these keys will open the Lorebook to that entry
Once toggled, the activated Lorebook entry will be highlighted in your story:
Secondly, we’d like to introduce our new right-click Custom Context menu.

Keep in mind the new right-click menu might not work for some touch devices without a keyboard. Touch devices with a keyboard can use ctrl+right click to force it.
Add to…
Quickly add text to your Memory or Author’s Note, create new Lorebook entries, or ban tokens.
Generate Inline: Click anywhere inside your story to let the AI generate another output in the selected position.
Generate Lore…: This option will make use of our newly added Lorebook generation feature! Select which type of generation you’d like and let the AI take the wheel!
Update 09/13/2021:
We’ve added a setting to allow you to swap the Custom Context Menu on and off. Allowing you to continue using the other menu with Ctrl + Right click.

Last but not least, we have the new Dynamic Repetition Penalty Range
When the Dynamic Repetition Penalty Range is activated, your repetition penalty will only apply to your “Story” text and not to Memory or Lorebook entries.
This may make the AI more likely to repeat details found in these entries.
Please Note: “Story” text includes not just the text of the story itself, but also anything inserted inside the story during context building, such as your Author’s Note.
…and more!
For easier editing and viewing of Lorebook text, use can now the right arrow to toggle the Advanced Lorebook Settings viewability

There are a few other small overhauls and changes such as the previously mentioned Editor overhaul (which you might not see much of, but it will make it much easier for us to add new features in the near future), Dynamic Font Loading, and a new Search by individual space separate terms, with quotes being used to strictly match, and minus being used to search excluding something!
We’re excited to see what amazing content you will create with these new tools, and we are looking forward to seeing what you and the AI come up with, so feel free to share your latest creations over on our official Discord, Reddit and Twitter!
