Gone are the days of reliance on other companies to make good models. With this new independence, we’ll be creating models optimized for our products while still remaining ever-uncensored and privacy-friendly.
Of course, developing our own models is no small feat. It requires a deep understanding of AI technology, as well as access to the latest tools and resources. That’s why we have spent the past six months investing in our team, building out our infrastructure, and acquiring the resources we need to take our AI capabilities to the next level.
Datasetting is always in progress:
Our relentless pursuit of the best possible datasets has been a major focus during this preparation period. We understand that data is the lifeblood of our AI, and our amazing team members left no stone unturned to ensure that we have the most comprehensive and diverse datasets at our disposal that are tailored to our product visions. We have invested an intensive amount of time and effort into cleaning and formatting our data to ensure they meet both our and your rigorous standards.
This has been our primary focus in terms of text-based improvements, which we are now ready to incorporate into new models.
This tireless focus on datasetting endeavors ensures that our models are going to be optimized to deliver the best possible performance for our product visions.
Change in Communication:
At NovelAI, we understand the importance of transparency and openness with our community. However, in our quest to maintain a technical advantage, protect the integrity of our research, and not disappoint our community, we’ve reasoned that going forward we are unable to be completely transparent about distinct progress related to future models. Model R&D is incredibly volatile and chaotic, and we’d hate to announce anything before it’s ready.
We appreciate your patience and understanding during these past months. We’ve been eagerly waiting to announce this for a while now, but due to an embargo we were under we legally couldn’t make any public statement just yet. Please rest assured that our promises to the community are never forgotten. Our existing roadmap goals continue to largely hold the same, but without stronger model infrastructure development resources, the resulting product potential would be utterly wasted. Therefore, we have shifted our internal goals to focus on improvements on the base models first, which will greatly ease any future plans in that direction.
It is our goal to provide even better user experiences and push the limits of artificial intelligence. With our new compute clusters and our own optimized models, we believe that we will be able to deliver even more innovative and effective options to our community while maintaining the highest standards of freedom, privacy, and security.
This will be a monumental step for us, and we look forward to seeing the incredible creations that will emerge from our community.

終わり無き可能性の始まり:
優秀なAIモデルを開発するには他社の力を借りる必要があった時代は終わり、私達は自立しました。そしてこれからは、自社サービスに最適化されたオリジナルモデルの開発を進め、検閲の無いプライバシーフレンドリーなサービスの提供を続けます。
ただし、勿論、オリジナルAIモデルの開発は簡単ではありません。
というのも、開発にはAI技術への深い理解と広範な知識だけでなく、最先端の機器やソフトウェアを使いこなす必要があるからです。そしてその為に、6ヶ月もの間、私達は開発チームに投資して開発基盤を築き、AIの革新性を更に高めるための準備にリソースを注いできました。
データセットの準備:
この準備期間中、学習用データセットの品質管理には特に注力しました。AI開発にとって、その学習データは生命線、完成するモデルのクオリティはデータセットの品質に依存するのです。私達の素晴らしいチームは小さな石ころ一つ残さないように学習データを精査し、多様性に富んでいながらも、私達の掲げるビジョン、サービスのイメージに沿ったデータセットを用意する事に心血を注いできました。多くのリソースを費やしたクリーニングとフォーマッティングにより、データセットは私達の、そして何よりもカスタマーの皆さんの期待に沿える品質となっています。これは私達が開発している新しいテキストベースモデルの最重要ポイントでした。
このような、データセッティングへの努力によって、私達の新しいモデルは最適化され、サービスのビジョンを実現するべく高いパフォーマンスを発揮する事が出来るのです。
準備段階での発表について:
NovelAIサービスにおいて私達は共に常に透明性とプライバシーの重要性を意識し、コミュニティへ情報を開示してきました。しかし、技術的な優位性を保ち、研究の独立性を守り、コミュニティを失望させないことを追求した結果、開発中のモデルに関する明確な進展について完全に情報開示することはできないと判断しました。モデルの研究開発は、非常に不安定で混沌としており、準備が整う前に何かを発表することは避けたいと思ったのです。
この数ヶ月間、皆さんには大変ご迷惑をおかけしました。私たちは、この発表ができることを心待ちにしていたのですが、法律上まだ公表することが叶いませんでした。コミュニティへの約束は決して忘れませんので、ご安心ください。
私たちの既存のロードマップの目標はほぼ変わりませんが、より強力なインフラ開発リソースがなければ、結果としてモデルの持つ可能性を無駄にしてしまいます。そのため、まずはベースモデルの改良に重点を置くよう社内目標を変更しました。これによって、将来的な見通しをとても立て易くなりました。
これからも私達はより良いユーザーエクスペリエンスの提供を目指し、人工知能の可能性に挑戦し続けます。新しいコンピュータクラスターと最適化された新しいモデルによって、自由な表現、プライバシー、セキュリティの最高水準を維持しつつ、さらに革新的で効果的なオプションをコミュニティに提供できるようになる、と私達は強く信じています。
