AetherRoom Devlog #3 — AI Leek Peeks and Progress

Video version of the following blog:

We’ve been busy!

I wanted to make up for it by posting a bit of progress regarding our AI that we’ll be using for AetherRoom.

First of all, what you are about to see is not Kayra, our 13b model we use on NovelAI! Over the past months we’ve been assembling a custom from-scratch dataset that will be plopped right on top of our current best base model.

This new model does not and probably will not have a special name. We are leaning away from personifying it in AetherRoom like we do with our NovelAI models. When it needs to represent so many different people and characters, it makes very little sense for the model to have a recognizable name or body. We don’t want you to worry about what the model is, we’d rather you care about the characters it can act as.

What follows will simply be a collection of screenshots from our testers’ model testing. I can verifiably say that these are 100% unedited screenshots and are completely raw AI output from AetherRoom’s model. For those interested in emotions, some screenshots have visual emotions set, but no matter what, in every screenshot you can see exactly what the AI was feeling via the flavor text underneath each message.

Yes, there will be chat visual customization.

Please keep in mind that every little thing you’re about to see is all work-in-progress stuff!

This goes for UI, as well as the model itself. There’s a lot of things we’re doing specifically for model testing purposes that likely will not make an appearance in the final product. Roll the images!!!

As this is still far from the final version, the model is definitely not perfect! We’re looking into fixing a variety of issues, but I feel what we currently have is an excellent first step into the best possible chatbot model for our product.

Other Stuff

On a bit more of a peek into the development side, recently our team’s been joined by a few new wonderful backend and frontend developers. Their excitement is awesome to see and they’ve already been an immediate help in accelerating AetherRoom’s development.

I’ve (TabloidA) personally been going completely wild across the product and updating and refining all kinds of UI elements.

Currently trying out this new card-centric view for the website’s community section. How we handle cards is a big part of what makes this website AetherRoom, so it felt right to lean way more into letting creators show off their stuff.

Here’s a fun question of the month,

How do statistics influence your decision-making process when choosing what chatbot to talk to?

Let me know in the comments, on the reddit, or in our official discord!

We’ll be hunkering back down again, as we have lots more to do! We’re ever-grateful for the community’s patience while we grind this MVP out and work on making a product that’s worthy of the wait.
